Based on diverse historical sources, the article analyzes the influence of Chinese criminal gangs on the development of crime in Eastern Siberia at the beginning of the 20th century. The study proves that Chinese criminals as part of organized criminal groups quite often penetrated the border cities and rural areas of the eastern part of Siberia. In the conditions of the taiga and rural areas, gangs consisting of 10–40 hunghuz usually made sorties. In cities, smaller groups of 3–4 people committed crimes. At the same time, the Honghuzi operating in Eastern Siberia were well equipped with firearms. During the First World War, the presence of organized Chinese criminals on the territory of the Russian Empire became especially widespread. The border location of Eastern Siberia significantly complicated the struggle of law enforcement agencies against the Hunhuzism.
