This article is devoted to substantiating the effectiveness of specialized practical classes within the discipline "Foundations of Russian Statehood" in fostering civic identity among first-year university students. This work proposes an approach to fostering civic identity among first-year students, implemented through the course "Foundations of Russian Statehood". The aim of the study is the development and implementation into pedagogical practice of a set of practical learning activities designed to cultivate students' respect for national cultural heritage as well as a sense of appreciation for their country. This study employed the methods of scientific and regulatory literature analysis, practical session modeling and student surveys. The article determines the theoretical foundations for fostering civic identity, develops and pilot-tests a teaching methodology for practical sessions aimed at cultivating students' civic identity, assesses the effectiveness of the proposed methodology based on an analysis of practical session outcomes and student reflection and identifies factors that facilitate and hinder the development of civic identity among students. The novelty of the work lies in its comprehensive approach to fostering civic identity through a new academic course that combines theoretical frameworks, practical developments, and empirical validation of effectiveness. Of particular value are the interactive methods proposed, which focus on emotionally engaging students while avoiding stereotypical ideological clichés. The research results can be applied in teaching the "Foundations of Russian Statehood" course and in the activities of educational centers to design patriotic education programs for higher education institutions.
