Abstract:
Based on the analysis of publications devoted to the history of modernism, the work of the expressionist artist Saeki Yuzo is considered in the context of artistic transformations of the Meiji and Taisho eras. Complementing the research devoted to the mutual influence of Japanese and European art, the author relies on the memoirs of contemporaries of Saeki Yuzo, catalogues of exhibitions of recent years, materials of International Museum programs.
