The article is devoted to the formation and development of academic scientific schools in one of the oldest institutes of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences – the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East. The purpose of the article is to characterize the activities of the main scientific schools and trends currently existing at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography. The article shows that the scientific schools and trends that exist at the Institute arose by separating them from the Far Eastern historical school, which in turn was formed under the influence of the Siberian historical and archaeological schools; the role of the first director of the Institute, Academician A.I. Krushanov; the role of the Institute of History of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a center of academic historical science in the Far East region and one of the training centers for professional historians is determined. The main sources for writing the article were the materials of the current IIAE archive – the personal files of scientists who worked at the Institute. The research methodology is based on the method of scientific description, and the methodology is based on a comprehensive, system-historical approach to the study of the past.
