Interregional Russian-Chinese cooperation: an expert view from the regions and cities of Russia

Abstract:
An analysis of current trends in Russian-Chinese interregional "sister" cooperation based on a study of the opinions of 123 experts from the administrative bodies of 77 Russian sister cities and sister regions who have experience of interaction with cities and regions of China for more than 5 years shows that a solid foundation of "sister cities" " Relations between Russia and China is humanitarian cooperation. Experts associate certain expectations and future prospects with trade and economic cooperation, which far from all Russian cities and regions managed to develop on mutually beneficial terms with China. To a certain extent, this does not depend on the border position of Russian regions, but on the general level of socio-economic development, investment attractiveness and activity of administrative authorities, business circles in Russian regions and cities. In their responses, the experts assign a significant place to listing numerous difficulties and problems on the path of mutually beneficial Russian-Chinese interregional cooperation.
